Consider the 2017-18 season an overachieving moment for the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, they’ll have their work cut out for them in the 2018 offseason with some free agents to sign and needs in their rotation.
The Sixers’ lack of defensive depth was exposed time and time again by the Boston Celtics as they were eliminated in the NBA Playoffs, 4-1. Ben Simmons‘ lack of confidence shooting the ball was exposed and in the end, Boston prevailed, making him look like a rookie.
Despite the end result, Joel Embiid still finished the regular season as the team’s first All-Star since 2013. Dario Saric continues to improve in the starting rotation and J.J. Redick proved to be a solid veteran presence.
They’ll need to evolve as an offensive unit in 2018-19 and some of that comes with using their assets to their advantage. Robert Covington is a 3-and-D prototype, but his production dropped as the season progressed.
The Philadelphia 76ers will need to continue to develop their young core if they hope to get over the hump. It will be interesting to see what they will do with so much cap space available. It’s hard to imagine they’d invest it all in one player. Here’s a look at five offseason goals for the Sixers.
