The Cleveland Cavaliers made the NBA Finals yet again, but now the 2018 offseason looms. Here are five goals for the summer they need to have.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a train barreling down the tracks, heading for the start of July and the decision of a single man who holds the fate of this franchise in his hand. That journey includes four straight trips to the Finals, including a sweep just days ago, all driven by LeBron James. At times this season, the train looked like it would derail, but it made it this far.

On July 1, James will become an unrestricted free agent, and for the first time since his return it looks like he may once again leave the Cavaliers to seek greener pastures. How the Cavaliers prepare for an offseason where two paths await — each difficult in its own way, and each very different from the other — will dictate their future.

If LeBron James stays in Cleveland, then general manager Koby Altman will need to find ways to improve the roster. That has been his mandate all year long, and he was not shy in making changes to the roster– from summer signings to February dealing. This offseason will be no different.

If LeBron James leaves again, then this franchise needs to head down a different track — one where it trades Kevin Love, moves any other veterans that teams will take on, and builds around the young players it has and its lottery pick this year.

Here we will strive for the best offseason, one where the King stays on his Ohio throne. With the right moves, the Cavaliers can realistically make it five straight trips to the Finals in 2019. What should their goals for this offseason be?
