2. To sell tickets

You can be good, you can be bad, or you can be middle-of-the-pack. But the worst thing for a professional sports team to be is boring.

This is, after all, an entertainment industry. Winning championships is ideally every franchise’s goal, but so is making money, and teams that just win without being entertaining don’t make as much money.

During the 2017-18 season, the Pistons’ first at Little Caesars Arena, the team ranked 19th in the league in average home attendance and 29th in attendance percentage.

The Pistons could use some excitement, and a shiny new rookie with star potential is a good way to draw curious fans into the building.

If selling more tickets is a priority, one easy first round target for the Pistons who definitely won’t be available with the 42nd pick is Michigan State’s Miles Bridges. He’s local, he fills a positional need and he is an explosive athlete whose highlight-reel dunks helped make him one of college basketball’s marquee stars.
