After an up-and-down second season with the Miami Heat, here are three possible trade destinations for versatile forward James Johnson.

At his best, James Johnson ticks a lot of boxes in the modern-day NBA.

At 6’8″, Johnson’s ability to handle the ball, defend multiple positions and score in a variety ways means a host of teams could benefit from the skill-set he has to offer.

However after signing a four-year contract extension last offseason with the Miami Heat, Johnson was not quite able to match the faith the Heat placed in him. Last season, Johnson averaged 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 73 appearances while playing 26.6 minutes per game.

Granted, Johnson’s No. 1 role on the team is not to be a scorer. However, there were 21 games last season in which Johnson scored just six points or less, and 34 games where he failed to score in double figures.

Now 31, Johnson has three years and $45.4 million remaining on his deal, with the Heat therefore needing to ascertain whether they wish to persist with him moving forward, or entertain what his value is on the trade market.

In terms of potential suitors, teams looking to contend in the next few years, or those who have undesirable contracts of their own, are the most likely to show an interest in Johnson.

With this in mind, here are three trade potential trade destinations for James Johnson this offseason.
