4. Complacency

Winning a championship is hard work.

Players use nearly every day to improve their games, getting stronger and better, with the hope that one day they’ll be able to raise the Larry O’Brien trophy and call themselves champions.

Nearly everyone on this Golden State team has gone through a championship celebration multiple times, and after a while, the motivation to win naturally disintegrates. It’s not that players don’t want more rings, but the fire and desire that pushed them harder than ever before in order to taste the initial glory slowly fades away after winning multiple titles.

More from Golden State Warriors

Throughout the season, there were stretches where it was clear the Warriors had lost some of the spark that motivated them when the latest banner in Oracle Arena was from 1975.

With the way the Dubs have dominated the league in recent years, it’s no surprise they may take winning for granted. Even Michael Jordan struggled to motivate himself during the Bulls title runs, creating fake stories in order to get himself riled up for regular season games.

Now, after multiple titles to their name, the Warriors have accomplished more than what most NBA players could only dream of, and it becomes harder to chase one’s dream once they’ve been reached on three separate occasions.

Golden State would love nothing more than to put up another banner in 2019, but after three titles in four years, it’s going to be very difficult to once again push themselves towards a goal they’ve become all too familiar with.
