3. Grayson Allen, SG — Duke

One position that could use some depth in Detroit is shooting guard.

Luke Kennard, last year’s lottery pick, is arguably the only true 2-guard on the roster. Stanley Johnson and Reggie Bullock have the size and skill set to play the position, but I think both of them are more natural small forwards. Plus, the Pistons could always use more shooters in the backcourt.

Kennard’s former college teammate, the controversial but talented Grayson Allen, may be available with the 42nd pick.

If Pistons fans miss the days of Rodman and Bill Laimbeer annoying and frustrating opponents but doing their jobs to help the team win, Allen might be their guy.

More important than the antics is that college basketball’s premier villain can play. Allen averaged 15.5 points, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game in his senior season, hitting 37 percent of his 3-pointers and helping Duke advance to the Elite Eight.
