5. An improved bench is coming

After possessing one of the best benches for so long under Steve Kerr, the Warriors somewhat struggled this past season, ranking in the bottom third of the league in scoring off the pine. They simply weren’t able to ever get into an offensive rhythm, though they did finish with the third-best point differential among all bench units at +1.7.

Luckily for Golden State, improvements should be coming in the offseason, as a large chunk of their bench unit — including Nick Young and Zaza Pachulia — will become free agents on July 1, allowing general manager Bob Myers to retool the roster as he sees fit.

Guys like David West and JaVale McGee have earned their spot on the roster, and G League alum Quinn Cook showed promise, but the team desperately needs help on the wing.

Per Anthony Slater of The Athletic:

"“Pachulia and West are the two most likely to be gone. It’s almost a sure thing. It’s possible both head into retirement. But even if either or both want to continue their careers, it’s unlikely it’ll be with the Warriors. Another thing the Rockets series exposed: the Warriors’ need for more wing options.”"

Andre Iguodala, the unofficial leader of the bench unit, had one of his worst seasons as a pro at age 34, shooting a career-worst 28.2 percent from distance while missing a combined 18 games in the regular and postseason.

With the eventual re-signing of Kevin Durant, the Warriors will have little money to spare, but as perennial contenders, there will be plenty of role players willing to take a pay cut in the hopes of being rewarded with a championship ring.

Joe Johnson is a free agent who could play on the veteran minimum. Or maybe the team will look at Trevor Ariza, who could be interested in heading west to Golden State.

They won’t make any splashy moves this offseason, but after struggling to get much scoring or wing depth from their bench, the Warriors will look to do anything they can to give themselves an edge in their quest for a three-peat.
