Con No. 2: His fit is questionable in Sacramento

There is no questioning Deandre Ayton’s abilities on the basketball court, but the Kings already have a center in Willie Cauley-Stein. Only 24 years old, Cauley-Stein has become an above-average contributor on both ends with his defensive prowess and finishing ability off the pick-and-roll.

This isn’t to say that Cauley-Stein will ever be better than Ayton, as the incoming rookie has a considerably higher ceiling and an already greater offensive skill-set.

This all depends on how the Kings view their starting center, whose contract is set to expire after the 2018-19 season. Sacramento could simply let him walk next offseason or have him traded by the deadline.

What could make sense for the Kings depending on their feelings toward WCS is drafting a guy like Marvin Bagley III, who projects as a future power forward, a position the team has lacked for a long time.

Bagley may never be better than Ayton, but he’ll most likely turn into a perennial All-Star, which would give Sacramento a more balanced starting unit instead of having to figure out what to do with two starting-caliber centers.
