Sacramento Kings: The pros and cons of drafting Deandre Ayton No. 2
Pro No. 2: His body is NBA-ready
Most rookies come into the NBA lacking the body they know is necessary to compete against grown men. These 20-something-year-olds go from playing against peers their age to having to maneuver through opponents with years of NBA experience, including weight training and dieting.
That type of beating takes its toll on young players because their bodies simply aren’t ready to handle it.
Ayton will have no such problem, as he’s added layers of muscle to his 7’1″ frame throughout his time at Arizona to get to 250 pounds.
Rookies may start the season off strong, but as it progresses, they begin to hit a wall, resulting from an unfamiliarity with the tolls of an 82-game season.
Nothing can prepare Ayton for that experience, but his body should help him keep up his play while his contemporaries begin to slow down once the All-Star break comes and goes.
