2. Kevin Hervey

  • Height: 6’7”
  • Weight: 212 lbs
  • Age: 21
  • Position: SF

Kevin Hervey is not a popular name during this draft process, but he looks like a guy who can contribute from day one in the NBA. Hervey played four seasons at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has excellent size for a wing and also has a 7’3.5” wingspan. He is not the most explosive athlete and has had some knee injuries in the past. Both those things combined have Hervey projected as a second-round selection.

In his senior season, Hervey averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.2 minutes per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from the 3-point line. He was the main guy on his team and was asked to do a lot on both ends of the court.

If selected by the Magic, Hervey could see early minutes as a small forward and small-ball power forward. His size, scoring instincts, shooting and willingness to defend could be valuable right away for the team. He is not going to be the primary guy on offense, but he could succeed being the third or fourth option and a guy who sees open looks when defenses double other players.

Different NBA draft sites have compared him to Al-Farouq Aminu and Ersan Ilyasova. Hervey played well at the NBA Draft Combine and could be a guy teams move up their rankings as we get closer to June 21.
