Con No. 2: Lack of athleticism/explosiveness

One of Doncic’s few flaws is his inability to explode on drives to the basket.

As far as weaknesses go, this one isn’t that bad. We’ve seen plenty of perimeter players succeed without Russell Westbrook-like athleticism, including guys like Stephen Curry and Paul Pierce, who became great because of their skills that they worked on tirelessly.

However, in today’s game, players are much faster, stronger and more athletic than in years past, and the number of players with such attributes will only increase with time.

Doncic’s game could prove enough to get by without explosiveness, but he could also struggle when matched up against certain defenders who use their physical traits to shut opponents down. Sometimes even Curry struggles when guarded by such opponents.

If the two-time MVP’s lack of athleticism can hurt his game at times, there is no reason to doubt it could have a similar effect on Doncic.
