Philadelphia 76ers: 5 options for pick No. 39 in 2018 NBA Draft
2. Shake Milton
Shake Milton is a versatile wing that is entering the draft after three seasons at SMU. With Semi Ojeleye and Sterling Brown leaving for the NBA, Milton was tasked with leading the Mustangs to a second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
Unfortunately, a right hand injury derailed his — and the team’s — season. SMU went 15-7 in the 22 games that Milton played. He averaged 18.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game over that span. Once Shake was sidelined, SMU closed out the year by going 2-9 and missing the tournament.
Milton is the quintessential 3-and-D prospect. He was a potent outside scorer throughout college, shooting 43.4 percent from the beyond the arc on 5.9 attempts per game in 2017-18. Defensively, he sports a 7’1″ wingspan that can disrupt defenders on the perimeter. His 100.4 defensive rating is fourth-best on a team that allowed the 12th-fewest points per game in the nation.
However, his injury could be a bit of a concern heading into his rookie season. Additionally, he had a rough NBA Draft Combine, going 0-for-12 from the field in both of his scrimmages and committing four fouls and four turnovers in the first game.
Shake Milton would be a great addition to the 76ers lineup, delivering solid defense and outside shooting off of the bench for a team that needs both to compete in the Eastern Conference.
