Philadelphia 76ers: Buying

I’ll admit the Bryan Colangelo situation probably didn’t help the Philadelphia 76ers’ chances. While that may be the case, I’m not going to count out one of the NBA’s best up-and-coming clubs.

There’s so much intrigue in joining the 76ers, at least from LeBron’s standpoint. They’ve got a strong core of young stars in Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz, with others like Dario Saric and Robert Covington also adding value. Inserting the King into that equation would certainly shake things up in the East.

On top of that, no major tinkering would be needed to make the financials work. The 76ers are one of the few teams who wouldn’t need to make monumental moves to create the cap space to sign LeBron to a max contract. That has to count for something, as it means the bench wouldn’t need to be gutted.

We’ve already gotten a glimpse at what this team’s potential is. They rolled over the Heat in the first round of the playoffs after earning the No. 4 seed. That came after five straight years of missing the postseason. The Process is nearly complete, and Embiid believes James can be the final piece to the puzzle.

With an outstanding coach, three rising stars, six 2018 draft picks (two in the first round) and the cap space needed to sign James, the Sixers must be taken seriously in the LeBron Sweepstakes.
