Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 takeaways from 2017-18 NBA season
2. This may be the end of Tyronn Lue
The Cavaliers have not been the first overall seed in the East since the 2015-16 season, when they went 57-25. In their battles with the Golden State Warriors, they have never had the better record or home-court advantage.
After a season where it seemed like the lows were really low and the highs were never really high enough, the Cavs were only able to finish fourth in the East.
The Eastern Conference is on the rise with teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics, and next year may not be a year where the Cavs can stumble all season and just barely get a good playoff seed.
Head coach Tyronn Lue’s Finals record is 1-2. After two straight losses in the Finals and an uninspiring regular season, this may be it for the coach that LeBron James wanted instead of David Blatt.
Moments like the Game 1 blunder where the Cavaliers had a timeout and nobody on the team decided to use it are things you can point towards when you want to explain why it might be time to part ways with Lue — especially if LeBron James leaves this summer and a rebuild begins.
In the last two Finals, the Cavaliers have just not been prepared to play. In the 2018 NBA Finals, the Cavs were swept and although the Warriors are decisively the better team, an NBA team in the Finals should be able to win at least one game.
With two straight Finals losses, this may be the end for coach Lue.
