Boston Celtics: 2017-18 player grades for Jayson Tatum
By Mason McFee
Final grade
Being a top-three selection in any draft comes with high expectations. Being a top-three selection for the winningest franchise in NBA history comes with even higher expectations. Being a top-three selection for a storied franchise like the Celtics that, while ahead of schedule, really needed to be a hit after trading down? That’s a lot of expectations to live up to.
So far, mission accomplished.
As tragic as Gordon Hayward’s injury was, that injury was supposed to sink the Celtics. They could still make the playoffs, but it’d probably be as an eighth seed or something like that. Instead, they responded with a 16-game winning streak, and finished as the No. 2 seed in the East.
As the great Fort Minor once said, remember the name.
