Los Angeles Lakers: Latest free agency rumors you need to know about
Paul George content to stay in Oklahoma City?
One week, it seems like George is a lock to land with the Lakers. Next, the Houston Rockets are mentioned as his eventual destination. Now, it appears he’s pondering the possibility of staying with the Oklahoma City Thunder for another year.
While speaking on Yahoo Sports‘ Chris Mannix’ show, Shams Charania had this to say about George’s current situation as free agency inches closer:
"“I think there’s a lot of positivity around it, and I think even around Paul George, there’s a sense he feels like he’s in a good place in Oklahoma City. But things change. There’s different dominoes that’s going to change over these next few weeks. “LeBron James is probably the biggest domino that’s going to drop. Until the league gets a hold of what his aspirations are, Paul George can very well decide to stay in Oklahoma City and not wait for what LeBron James is going to do, but that’s gonna be a conversation that’s probably going to need to be had privately among both parties.”"
The situation gets even more interesting when we consider that ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski recently claimed that there’s “gonna be a conversation” between James and George this offseason about joining the Lakers (via NewsOK.com). There appears to be significant potential for the two to talk before July 1, but what could come of that conversation is still a mystery.
For now, though, it appears the odds of George staying put are higher than expected. It may not be what Los Angeles fans want to hear, but it’s a possibility we all need to consider. As disappointing as the 2017-18 season was for the Thunder, it’s worth wondering if a second campaign could yield better results. Because, you know, chemistry and stuff.
As Charania alluded to, things can change in an instant. In the meantime, loyal Lake Show watchers should temper expectations. Maybe start preparng yourself for heartbreak now…
