Isaiah Thomas, DeMarcus Cousins to reunite this offseason?

I will start this off by saying this one is mainly connecting dots that may or may not exist. Then again, isn’t that what most NBA rumors are at their core?

A few days ago, Isaiah Thomas had this response when a Twitter user suggested he should rejoin former teammate DeMarcus Cousins this offseason:

In reality, this is probably just an innocent comment that merely suggests Thomas isn’t sickened by the idea of playing with Cousins again. It makes sense — the two seemed to jell well together during their days with the Sacramento Kings. Regardless of its intent, though, the comment has sparked a conversation.

Could Thomas and Cousins actually reunite come July? If so, where would this reunion take place? It may seem safe to assume that would be with the New Orleans Pelicans, Cousins’ current team which is expected to make a strong push to re-sign him despite his ongoing rehab from a torn Achilles tendon. That’s not the only legitimate option, though.

Maybe the Lakers? Despite his “no sixth man” comments back in March (via USA TODAY Sports’ Sam Amick), Thomas remains a possible re-signee for Los Angeles. As for Cousins, the team’s interest in the big man is well documented. Although that interest may have wavered following his early-February injury, the potential is there if the price is right.

Is the Lakers inking both Thomas and Cousins likely? Not really. But crazier things happen every year in the NBA. For now, don’t discard the idea.
