4. Tony Carr

  • Height: 6’4″
  • Weight: 200 lbs
  • Age: 20
  • Position: PG

Tony Carr played two seasons at Penn State. He was the go-to guy on offense and did enough to be looked at as a draft pick this season. Carr is a big guard who can play both point guard and shooting guard. He can handle the basketball, score in a variety of ways and can be a good defender in the league if he wants to be.

Last season at Penn State, Carr averaged 19.6 points, 5.0 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 0.8 steals in 35.4 minutes per game while shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 43.3 percent from the 3-point line. Carr has the physical tools and skills to be a longtime guard in the league. Right now though, he is a bit wild in his game and doesn’t always make the best decisions on the court.

Joining the Nuggets, Carr would not be the best player on his team and would not have so much pressure on him to perform. Being around NBA coaches and players every day should help Carr mature in his basketball game. He could be a role player who plays off the ball. He would see more open looks in the NBA because of space and because defenses would not be keying on him like they were in college.

Different NBA Draft sites have compared Carr to guys like Sam Cassell, Jarrett Jack and Rodney Stuckey. If Carr can develop his game as those guys did, the Nuggets could be getting a steal in the late second round. Carr could see minutes if he looks sharp right away because current backup point guards Devin Harris and Monte Morris could be gone this summer.
