With LeBron James’ looming free agency almost here, I lay out three on-court reasons for the King to dawn the regal purple and gold of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The busiest time of the NBA calendar is nearly upon us, which is interesting considering the actual games are coming to a close.

What generates the most buzz and conversation in past seasons, in large part due to the predictability of recent campaigns, is the musical chairs that teams and players play in terms of leveraging trades or changing scenery via free agency; and that’s not even discussing the draft portion of the offseason.

Arguably the biggest free agent story since the last time he changed teams will be the mystery surrounding LeBron James and his next destination as he enters unrestricted free agency when the 2018 NBA Finals conclude.

Will he stay in Cleveland, possibly finding himself in a lifetime ownership stake once his career ends? Does he stay in the East and team up with the closest thing we’ve seen to him in Ben Simmons with the Philadelphia 76ers? Or does joining the second-best team in the NBA and his longtime friend Chris Paul as the Houston Rockets lure him out West?

The team that gets mentioned most seems to be the Los Angeles Lakers. The off-court appeal of expanding his multimedia company and living in Los Angeles year-round will always be main talking points for the Lakers’ front office when recruiting free agents.

Instead, I will lay out three on-court reasons on why LeBron James should heavily consider the Lakers as his next destination.
