With the crazy free agency period rapidly approaching, here are four veteran free agents the Philadelphia 76ers should consider signing this summer.
While Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons garnered most of the acclaim, an underrated part of the Philadelphia 76ers‘ 2017-18 campaign was the success of their free agent signings.
It kicked off last summer with the signing of veteran shooting guard J.J. Redick. While his one-year, $23 million contract was on the generous side, Redick held up his end of the deal by enjoying a career-year in his 12th season in the league. Then there were the midseason additions of shooting guard Marco Belinelli and forward Ersan Ilyasova.
Belinelli wasted no time making an impression, posting elite shooting splits of .495/.385/.870 over his 28 regular season appearances while averaging 13.6 points per game. For Ilyasova, this was a second tour of duty, having appeared in 53 games in 2016-17 before being traded. This time around, Ilyasova again made an impression, posting six double-doubles in his 23 games.
While these three have all stated they wish to return to the Sixers next season, there are no guarantees once the crazy free agency period arrives.
Furthermore, with the Sixers having stated their intentions in adding at least one All-Star level player this summer, there’s a chance rivals may step in with offers superseding what the Sixers are able to offer.
So with a very important free agency period quickly approaching, here are four veteran free agents the Sixers should consider in the event they’re unable to come to terms with the players mentioned.
