Strengths

During his first two years in the NBA, Portis averaged 7.0 and 6.8 points per contest, which wasn’t all that bad, considering the inconsistent playing time he received. In Year 3, though, it was a completely different story, to say the least.

Although he didn’t do himself any favors by punching former teammate Nikola Mirotic in the face, resulting in a total of 31 games missed between the two players, Portis had a memorable season on several fronts.

For starters, he posted career highs in points (13.2 per game), rebounds (6.8 per game) and assists (1.7 per game). Portis also knocked down 35.9 percent of his looks from behind the 3-point line, which was also a career best. He shot 76.9 percent from the charity stripe – a 10 percent increase from the 66.1 percent conversion rate he posted last season.

Furthermore, Portis recorded 12 double-doubles in 2017-18 — not too bad considering he accomplished the feat just 11 times during his first two seasons.
