Chicago Bulls forward Bobby Portis wanted to cement his spot in the team’s rotation. Did he manage to accomplish this goal in 2017-18?

The Chicago Bulls selected Bobby Portis with the No. 22 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The caveat here is the Bulls went into that draft looking to add depth at the point guard spot behind Derrick Rose.

However, when Portis was still on the board, the Bulls selected the SEC Player of the Year, feeling like he was the best option available. During his first two seasons, Portis struggled to find his niche within the rotation.

Part of that was because of the team’s loaded frontcourt that included the likes of Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson. Sure, there were glimpses of potential here and there, but nothing to be overly excited about.

The good news for Portis coming into the season was that a few of the guys he played behind were no longer on the roster. Bearing that in mind, Portis was hoping he would finally be given the opportunity to prove that he could be a productive player on a nightly basis.

With that being said, here’s a look back at how he fared during the 2017-18 campaign.
