Sacramento Kings: 5 options for pick No. 36 in 2018 NBA Draft
By Ty Delbridge
1. Jevon Carter
- Height: 6’2”
- Weight: 205 lbs
- Age: 22
- Position: PG
Jevon Carter played four seasons at West Virginia. He was arguably the toughest defender in all of college basketball during those years. He is a big point guard who is a good shooter, has a high basketball IQ and is a tenacious defender. Carter is one of the older players in this draft, and because of that, he is being projected as a second round pick.
Carter is a great leader who is unselfish and will do whatever it takes to win a game. CBS ranked Carter as the 41st best player and said: “The savvy veteran point guard is a plug-and-play perimeter defender wherever he lands.”
Last season at West Virginia, Carter averaged 17.3 points, 6.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 steals in 35.5 minutes per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from the 3-point line.
The Ringer compared Carter to Jerryd Bayless, Fred VanVleet and Derek Fisher. Those three guys were/are fantastic backup guards, and every team needs a guy like them on their squad. The Kings could benefit from adding a player with those attributes.
The Kings drafted their point guard of the future in Fox last season, and could possibly draft another great guard in Luka Doncic. Carter is not a player who needs to be a starter. He is a guy who will be a valuable role player.
Carter would be a reliable backup to have behind Fox because of his shooting and ability to affect the game on both ends of the floor. He is a hard worker, mature and is not going to cause drama in a young locker room.

Carter has been rising been up draft boards the last couple weeks after a strong combine. It would not be a surprise if the Kings selected him with their second round pick and he wound up being a reliable player on this team for 10-plus seasons.
