Sacramento Kings: 5 options for pick No. 36 in 2018 NBA Draft
By Ty Delbridge
The Sacramento Kings went 27-55 this past season and missed the playoffs for the 12th straight season, the longest current playoff drought in the NBA. The Kings head into this offseason looking to improve their roster and the first stop at doing that is through the 2018 NBA Draft.
The Sacramento Kings got a bit of luck this NBA Draft Lottery and landed the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft on June 21. The Kings had the sixth-best odds at landing at landing a pick in the top three. The Kings will be hoping to find a franchise-changing player with their pick. Most mock drafts have them picking between Luka Doncic, Marvin Bagley III and Deandre Ayton.
The Kings head into this summer with the fifth-most cap space in the league and with two guys set to be free agents in Vince Carter and Bruno Caboclo. They are not a free agent destination at the moment and need to build their team through the draft and trades.
The Kings drafted De’Aaron Fox with the fifth pick in last season’s draft, and they acquired wing Justin Jackson and power forward Harry Giles through a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. They also have shooting guard Buddy Hield and center Willie Cauley-Stein, who played meaningful minutes for the Kings all season.
As well as the second overall pick, the Kings own the No. 36 pick. In the second round, the Kings won’t be looking for a star player, but could hopefully find a guy who can develop into a role player to play behind the building blocks of this team.
