2. 16-game winning streak

Once the Celtics lost Gordan Hayward for the year, the outlook on their season looked bleak.

Hayward had just come off the first All-Star selection of his career. He was supposed to be the secondary scorer the C’s sorely lacked.

Without him, that second option was up for grabs, but without a clear-cut replacement to go along with an abundance of youth and inexperience at the position, it appeared that the Celtics would sorely miss their prized free-agent acquisition all year long.

Consecutive losses to begin the new season only exacerbated the issue, until the team put together a winning streak of 16 straight games, stretching out over a month long.

There is no doubt that after Hayward’s injury and a 0-2 start, Celtics fans were doubting their team’s abilities to compete at a high level.

The winning streak was a sign that while the Celtics would certainly miss Hayward on the court, it wouldn’t stop them from competing on a nightly basis, doing so rather successfully.
