Boston Celtics: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
The Boston Celtics’ 2017-18 season was filled with spectacular performances, jaw-dropping highlights and an improbable playoff run.
2017-18 was a crazy ride for the Boston Celtics, as they withstood injuries to multiple All-Stars en route to coming just one win shy of the NBA Finals.
After Gordon Hayward injured his ankle less than 12 minutes into his Celtics’ debut, many believed the season would be a lost one in Boston, as there was simply no way that then 19-year-old rookie Jayson Tatum could fill the All-Star’s shoes.
Despite the deflating feeling, the Celtics never wavered. They produced a 16-game winning streak soon after, with Tatum and then 20-year-old Jaylen Brown assuming more of the offensive responsibilities without a hitch, averaging 13.9 and 14.5 points per game, respectively.
Out to show that he could, in fact, be the face of his own franchise, Kyrie Irving did just that, leading the Celtics in both scoring and assists at 24.4 points and 5.1 dimes a game as the C’s went 55-27, good for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.
Even after Kyrie was lost for the playoffs in early April, Boston kept chugging along, taking out the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers in consecutive rounds before losing a heartbreaker on their home court in Game 7 of the conference finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Along the way, the Celtics produced some highlight-worthy moments, including top 10 plays and some inconceivable comebacks against the NBA’s elite.
Since their season is over, let’s take a look back on one of the wilder campaigns in Celtics franchise history, one that could be the starting point for a potential dynasty in the making.
