Boston Celtics: 2017-18 player grades for Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving completed his first season with the Boston Celtics after being traded. Here’s a look at how things went during the 2017-18 season.
Kyrie Irving has spent his entire career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After shocking the NBA stratosphere that he wanted out of the city that drafted him, Irving was traded to the Boston Celtics last offseason.
Expectations were high for the Celtics once they traded for the All-Star point guard. The 26-year old finished his seventh season in the NBA and it was another successful year. Things went south when he got injured for the rest of the 2017-18 campaign, however.
Injuries aside, it was clear that he was worth every part of that trade for the Celtics. His season was MVP-worthy, but it’s hard to win when you’re going up against the likes of LeBron James, James Harden, Kevin Durant and many more. Getting injured and missing a lot of games cancelled out his chances at winning the NBA’s most prestigious award, but it was still a stellar year.
It looks like things are just going to get better for Irving for years to come; it’s just about whether he can stay healthy. If you don’t remember, Irving has had plenty of knee (and other) injuries in the past dating all the way back to his college days.
Despite Boston making the playoffs, Irving was unable to participate. However, his regular season stats were very good. He averaged 24.4 points, 5.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
