3. Joe Ingles’ playoff outburst against the Houston Rockets

After the loss of Gordon Hayward to free agency, it was imperative that Ingles lived up to the four-year, $52 million contract the Jazz rewarded him with last summer.

Over the course of the regular season, Ingles was a picture of consistency, averaging 11.5 points, 4.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 31.4 minutes per game. Playing all 82 games, Ingles shot at an elite 44 percent clip from long range on 5.7 attempts per game.

However, Ingles’ performance in Game 2 of the Jazz’s second round playoff series against the Houston Rockets eclipsed all his previous outings. In 36 minutes of action, Ingles scored a career-high 27 points on a scintillating 10-of-13 shooting from the field, which featured hitting an absurd 7-of-9 from 3-point range.

Following the Jazz’s sensational 116-108 win on the road to tie the series at 1-1, coach Snyder commented on Ingles’ career game:

"“Every time that Joe’s needed to step up his game, he’s been able to do that, or at least he’s committed to that. I think over time he’s improved, and he knew tonight we were going to need to take and make some shots. He was prepared to do that, and I thought he was aggressive, not just shooting the ball but he was able to drive the ball some and make some plays….I’m not surprised, but it’s certainly a very timely performance given the situation.”"

Such was the significance of Ingles’ performance that he joined a select few players who had scored 27 points including seven triples on no greater than 13 total field goal attempts in a playoff game:

While the Jazz eventually lost the series 4-1, Ingles’ night was certainly one to remember.
