Denver Nuggets: 2017-18 player grades for Jamal Murray
Jamal Murray had a productive season as he transitioned to the point guard role for the Denver Nuggets. Here’s a look at his player grade from 2017-18.
The Denver Nuggets are making strides as a franchise in the tough Western Conference. Jamal Murray has gone from a prolific 3-point shooter to a lethal combo guard, and the team has taken notice. As a result, the Nuggets traded Emmanuel Mudiay, the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, in favor of the developing Murray.
Murray looked solid in Year 2, averaging 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 37.8 percent from 3-point range. The former Kentucky Wildcat standout appeared in all but one game for the Nuggets in 2017-18, showing off his durability at 6’4″. His turnovers per game were up slightly (2.1 per game) but so were his assists, showing that he’s adapting to being both a scorer and distributor.
He set a new career-high in scoring with 38 points against the Portland Trail Blazers back on Jan 22. while showing off his efficiency. He shot 14-for-19 from the floor, 4-of-6 from behind the arc and 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the game. There weren’t any games where he achieved double-digits in assists, but that’s why you use the offseason to improve.
The Denver Nuggets have Nikola Jokic, a healthy Paul Millsap and the 14th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft to look forward to in 2018-19. There’s tons of upside with this group, especially since they’ve got the core figured out with Jokic, Murray and Gary Harris. With that being said, here’s a look at some player grades for Jamal Murray in 2017-18.
