In an ideal world, the Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason would include these things happening during the 2018 NBA Draft and 2018 NBA free agency.

It all comes down to this. Everything Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers have done over the last 16 months has been leading us to this pivotal point for the storied franchise.

A young core of exciting talent has been established. A first round pick has been acquired. Copious amounts of cap space are available. The buzz is beginning to build, and the Lakers are priming themselves for what could be an offseason to remember as they attempt a dramatic return to relevance.

If that’s going to happen, what needs to go down in the coming months? How will that draft pick need to be used? Which free agents must be signed/re-signed? What would be an “ideal” series of events for the Lakers?

To answers all of those questions, I’ve come up with what I believe are my ideal moves for Magic and co. during the 2018 NBA Draft and 2018 NBA free agency. Does that mean they’ll happen? Not necessarily. But it also doesn’t mean they’re unrealistic. It just means the Lakers will need a little luck on their side in the coming months.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Magic’s short time at the helm, it’s that anything is possible. So strap in and get your popcorn ready. It’s going to be a crazy offseason for the Lakers that could see them re-emerge as one of the Western Conference’s teams to beat.
