2. Shake Milton, SG — SMU

  • Height: 6’5″
  • Weight: 195 lbs
  • Age: 21

The 6’5″ combo guard from SMU had an outstanding junior season. Shake Milton averaged 18.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while shooting a fairly good 44.9 percent from the field and an outstanding 43.4 percent from 3-point range.

Milton isn’t by any means a pure point guard, and neither is the current backup guard, Malik Monk, but with the two of them running the backcourt together for the bench unit, the Hornets would have two guys that can handle the ball and shoot the lights out with incredible range while playing on or off the ball.

If nothing else, Milton would bring some more excitement to Charlotte, and sometimes that’s all you can ask for with the No. 55 pick.

Here’s a video showing off some of that shooting range:

Before the NBA Draft Combine, I would’ve predicted Milton to be an early second-rounder, but he didn’t exactly impress. This is the only reason I can see him falling as low as pick No. 55. If I’m the Hornets, I’m not getting my hopes up for the SMU product being around at No. 55, but if he is, I’m drafting him without thinking twice.
