3. Cody Martin, SG/SF — Nevada

  • Height: 6’7″
  • Weight: 200 lbs
  • Age: 22

The Martin brothers absolutely tore it up this season at Nevada and put the entire nation on notice during their improbable NCAA Tournament run.

If you’re looking for a scoring wing, you’re looking for the other Martin brother, Caleb. However, if you want a playmaker and a natural point guard, you’ve come to the right Martin brother.

After transferring from NC State to Nevada, Cody Martin averaged 14.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game while shooting a nice 51.6 percent from the field.

The biggest knock on Cody is his range. Last season he shot a poor 29.4 percent from 3-point range. It’s hard to imagine that being effective at the next level, especially since the 3-point line only gets farther away from the bucket in the pros. However, at 6’7″, Cody isn’t looking to shoot from 3 very often. He’s looking to attack off the dribble and get to the basket, creating a shot for either himself or a teammate.

Here’s a video of Cody Martin finishing a fast break with a nasty dunk against Texas in the NCAA Tournament (note that it’s his brother, Caleb, that gets beaten off the dribble the following possession, not Cody):

I could definitely see both Martin brothers returning to school to run it back for their senior seasons, but if Cody decides to remain in the draft, keep an eye out for him at pick No. 55.
