2. Kevin Hervey, PF — UT Arlington

The toughest part about this time of year for GMs and front office personnel is that player stock values can really fluctuate based on elements that don’t necessarily translate to the NBA, such as exposure in the NCAA Tournament and the NBA Draft Combine.

This can not only inflate the actual value of some players, but put other players being heavily considered by teams just out of reach. Hopefully this doesn’t become the case for the Pacers and Texas-Arlington product Kevin Hervey.

Hervey had one of the, if not the, most head-turning displays at this year’s NBA Draft Combine.

The truth is that for a senior entering the draft having already torn both ACLs, it’s a testament to modern medicine that he has gotten this far. If they want to roll the dice in that sense, the 21-year-old Hervey just may be the guy for the Pacers.

He is an incredible finisher at the basket, fluent scorer, and could be a real headache for opposing teams’ reserves, scoring in a hurry. Frankly, Hervey can score from deep, with his back to the basket, from mid-range, and seemingly from anywhere when he is in a flow:

The only question mark outside of the obvious injury concerns is that he played 32.2 minutes per game in his senior year, and is used to that role. It may be a huge challenge for him to take a step back from that if the Pacers drafted him. In addition, this would contradict the Pacers’ desire to develop T.J. Leaf next season.
