San Antonio Spurs: 5 options for pick No. 49 in 2018 NBA Draft
2. Devon Hall, SG — Virginia
At 6′ 6″ and 206 pounds, Devon Hall is probably the most realistic 3-and-D option for the Spurs with this pick. He is 23 years old and has the potential to be a really good two-way player in this league. The senior out of Virginia averaged 11.7 points per game while shooting 43 percent from deep and almost 90 percent from the free throw line.
In a lot of ways, Hall could be like Danny Green — a spot-up shooter who can be a lockdown defender with the athleticism and quickness to keep up with some of the best in the league. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game with an effective field goal percentage of 59.9 percent.
Hall could fit very will with a Spurs offense that relies on ball movement and floor-spacing. You can imagine him playing well alongside someone like Dejounte Murray or Patty Mills, who can drive into the lane and kick it out for 3. Hall also prides himself on being a defensive stopper, something that is rarer in college. He is embracing the less glamorous role of being an all-around player, and that is exactly the kind of prospect the Spurs will be looking for.
Hall’s challenge, like many young players, is going to be the turnovers. He also needs to work on his ball-handling, as he tends to be a little sloppy, especially when he gets going at high speeds. If he can correct these issues, he has a great chance to play a role in the success of the Spurs.
