San Antonio Spurs: 5 options for pick No. 49 in 2018 NBA Draft
4. Isaac Bonga, SF — Germany
At barely 18 years old, Bonga is one of the youngest players in this year’s draft. He is also one of the most intriguing prospects because he still has so much room to grow and develop. In two seasons playing limited minutes with the Frankfurt Skyliners, Bonga’s numbers were nothing special, but take a look at this highlight reel and you will see how much potential he has:
Bonga has length and quickness that makes you think of great wing defenders like Paul George and Trevor Ariza, and if he can add some more muscle to his 6′ 9″, 203-pound frame, he has a chance to really be a force on both ends of the floor.
The Spurs are famous for their player development and organic growth, and this is the kind of player that would be well worth taking a flyer on. He is projected to go exactly 49th by The Ringer, so he is maybe the most realistic target we have for the Spurs.
Bonga’s main problem is going to be his propensity for turnovers. If he can’t take care of the ball then he is going to have a hard time earning trust from coach Pop. On a team like the Spurs, there is no room for sloppiness, no matter how young you are.
