Philadelphia 76ers: 5 options for pick No. 38 in 2018 NBA Draft
2. Jevon Carter, PG – West Virginia
OK, so this goes against everything I said earlier. In terms of upside, Carter probably has one of the lower ceilings among guys who are going to get drafted. He’s also someone who’s going to play a decade in the NBA — at least — because he will lead the league in being a royal pain in the ass per 36 minutes for anyone who has to deal with him.
It’s far from a perfect comparison, because the guy I’m about to name was a star in college before he entered the draft as a 20-year-old (whereas Carter will be 23 when the season starts and doesn’t have nearly the same potential), but Marcus Smart might be a reasonable outcome.
Whether it’s this summer or next summer, Smart is going to get paid a lot of money to play basketball despite being easily the worst high volume shooter in the league. The reason is that when he’s on the floor, the Celtics take on a different vibe. Carter is made in the same mold.
Whoever drafts him is going to get a backup point guard that will come in and help set a tone you want on your roster. He’s the type of player every championship team needs, and there may not be a better chance to get one than right now for Philadelphia.
