1. Georgios Papagiannis‘ tenure in Sacramento ends

In a 2016 draft-day trade, Sacramento sent Marquese Chriss (the eighth pick) to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Georgios Papagiannis (the 13th pick), Skal Labissiere (the 28th pick) and the rights to Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Less than two years later, Papagiannis was cut by the Kings, ending a short and confusing tenure.

While acquiring Bogdanovic may ultimately make this trade worth the risk, selecting Papagiannis in the first place was a head-scratching move, to say the least for Sacramento.

The 7’2″ big man had questions about his motor and limited athletic ability, as ESPN‘s Chad Ford had him ranked 46th on his big board.

If the Kings really wanted Papagiannis, they probably didn’t have to give up Chriss, whose size and athleticism make him an interesting prospect moving forward for Phoenix. Rather, they could’ve given up a couple of late second rounders as compensation.

Instead of having another long-term prospect to pair with Fox and Bogdanovic, Sacramento cut bait with a player that never seemed worthy of its desires to begin with, nor was he ever worth relinquishing that eighth pick.
