Weaknesses

Bazemore became a dependable role player, but at age 28, he probably won’t become any better than that. The advanced numbers bare this out; Bazemore finished with a 14.5 Player Efficiency Rating (15 is league average). His .059 win shares per 48 minutes were also well below the .100 league-average threshold. The Hawks were better with him on the floor, but not significantly better; the team’s net rating jumped from -7.6 to -4.1 when he played.

Despite his improved assist numbers this year, Bazemore often struggled as a playmaker. Coinciding with his enhanced dime totals was a hike in turnover percentage, which climbed to 17 percent this season. In particular, he wasn’t effective on ball screens, averaging 0.76 points per possession as the pick-and-roll ball-handler. That’s also where his turnover issue reared its head the most; he coughed it up a troubling 17.8 percent of the time in those situations.

He was worse playing iso-ball. Bazemore scored a paltry 0.69 points per possession on isolations with a 23.4 effective field goal percentage. It’s a good thing he only averaged 0.7 isolation possessions per game this year, otherwise his production would’ve been significantly worse.

Bazemore has found a comfortable role as a floor-spacer that can provide some effort on the defensive end. I wouldn’t ask him to do anything more than that.
