3. Kevin Huerter, SG — Maryland

Kevin Huerter declared for the draft after his sophomore season at Maryland without hiring an agent.

Nonetheless, Heurter came away from the NBA Draft Combine with glowing reviews. He was called the best shooter at the combine by some people, improving his stock with every drill he participated in and every jump shot he knocked down.

Huerter is fundamentally sound, something NBA teams will like. He isn’t the greatest athlete, but when you are doing things the right way it can help overcome some athletic deficiencies. He is a heady player that understands the game. Being a smart player will help overcome a lack of athleticism. Also, when you shoot the ball like Huerter does, teams will find a spot for you.

Huerter knocked down 39.4 percent of his 3-point attempts at Maryland. In addition, he showcased solid facilitating skills, averaging 3.0 assists per game. For someone who isn’t a point guard, that is an outstanding number for college basketball where assists are tougher to come by than in the NBA.

He also has great size. Standing 6’7”, Huerter has the size to play solid defense. His lack of athleticism could cause him to struggle at times, but his height will help him.

Huerter has a real chance to develop into a Kyle Korver type player. Both are 6’7” with excellent shooting strokes and underwhelming athleticism. However, both are smart players whose basketball IQ’s are more than enough to make up for their lack of athleticism.
