5. Chimezie Metu, PF — USC

Of all of the players on this list, the most luck will have to be involved to land Chimezie Metu. Metu could slide into the end of the first round and shouldn’t last too long into the second round. If he happens to be on the board still when the Knicks are on the clock, they would be hard-pressed to pass on him.

Metu is a great fit for the current NBA. He is an athletic big man that can be a difference-maker defensively. He averaged 1.6 blocks per game in his collegiate career. The defensive end will be his calling card at the onset of his career.

Offensively, Metu has the tools to develop into a stretch big man. He improved his free throw shooting as his career with USC went on, making 73.6 percent of his free throws his final two seasons after shooting 51.3 percent as a freshman.

Metu began stepping out a little more this past season, making 12 of his 40 attempts from beyond the arc. That is only 30 percent, but it at least shows that it is something he was working on to improving.

Right now, Metu scores a lot based on his superior athleticism and effort level. It will be tougher to score like that at the next level, but he has the tools to develop offensively.

If Metu slips and he is there at No. 37, the Knicks will think long and hard about selecting him. A potential frontcourt combination of Metu and Porzingis down the road would give teams nightmares with their athleticism and versatility.
