3. Anfernee Simons, PG/SG — IMG

Anfernee Simons is a boom-or-bust pick. If he were to go to college next year, he would’ve been entering as the No. 9 prospect. That’s a fairly good measure to show how talented he is and what he might be in the NBA. It’s not often that you can snag a top prospect out of high school that late in the first round.

He has plenty of potential and he could be one of the better players of the draft class. Simons does lack some size though, as he’s 6’3″ and only 185 pounds. That’s fine if he spends a lot of time at point guard, but it may be hard to match up with some of the bigger shooting guards.

According to MaxPreps, he averaged 23.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. He’s a good scorer and can do so in a variety of ways, including 3-point shooting and athletic finishes. He’s able to be a pull-up, spot-up and off-the-dribble shooter.

He shot 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3. His shooting and athleticism aren’t going to be questioned at the next level. He’s a fairly good ball-handler as well, but is a score-first type of guard.

His defense is there, but it’s not as good as you’d like. He will need to work on it as he gets older. The Sixers could draft him because they could value his upside and at No. 26.
