Orlando Magic wing Wesley Iwundu received plenty of playing time to show what he has to offer in 2017-18. How did he do in his rookie season?

2017-18 was another season in the wilderness for the Orlando Magic. Their 25-57 record led to their sixth consecutive season sitting out the playoffs. It’s understandable if fans have trouble finding many positives after such a year.

Most of the attention is understandably focused on Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac, the No. 6 pick in the upcoming draft and the continued search for a new coach. However, Wesley Iwundu could also be considered a future piece of Orlando’s puzzle.

Orlando selected the lanky wing player out of Kansas State 33rd overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. As a second round pick, not much was expected out of him. Therefore, his development took place out of the spotlight. Still, Iwundu was afforded plenty of time to show his abilities, playing 1,020 minutes in 62 games.

Iwundu finished 2017-18 averaging 3.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.5 steals per game. He was also sent down to the G League affiliate Lakeland Magic on four occasions for a total of nine games. Iwundu averaged 15.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game in the minors.

With extensive playing time for a perennial lottery team, how did Wesley Iwundu do in his rookie campaign?
