Oklahoma City Thunder: Top 10 NBA Draft picks in franchise history
5. Jack Sikma (C) — No. 8 pick in 1977 NBA Draft
Career Stats (with Sonics): 715 GP, 16.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 47.1 FG%, 83.6 FT%
In 1977, the Sonics picked Jack Sikma from Illinois Wesleyan University. Sikma never had a season where he didn’t average double digits in the scoring column in his career. He played nine seasons in Seattle.
Form 1978-85, he averaged a double double in each of those seven seasons. From that same time, Sikma played in seven All-Star games. He made the 1977-78 All-Rookie First Team and the 1981-82 All-Defensive Second Team.
Sikma thrived in an era where the big man was dominant. In the era of Bill Walton, Wes Unseld (who Sikma would go up against in the Finals), Bob McAdoo and Bob Lanier, Sikma was able to win a championship.
During the Sonics’ title run he averaged 14.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
That title is the Sonics/Thunder’s only title run. Along with Fred Brown, Sikma is one of the most important Sonics/Thunder players in the franchise and he is very underrated when you talk about the dominant big men in the past.
While playing center his whole career, he finished his playing tenure with 17,287 points and averaged 15.6 points per game.
Sikma should be a Hall-of-Famer as he has the consistent numbers, All-Star games and overall talent to be there one day.
