2. Kevin Durant (SF) — No. 2 pick in 2007 NBA Draft
Career stats (with the Sonics/Thunder): 641 GP, 27.4 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 3.7 APG, 1.2 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 48.3 FG%, 38.0 3P%, 88.2 FT%
The Sonics picked Kevin Durant with the second overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2008 after averaging 20.3 points per game. He still does not have a season where he averaged under 20 points per game.
Durant has two seasons for the Thunder where he averaged 30 points or more per game — 2009-10 (30.1 per game) and 2013-14 (32.0 per game).
Durant left the Thunder in the summer of 2016 after he became a free agent to go to Golden State, where he thought he would have a better chance of winning a ring. He did so in his first year there, becoming Finals MVP in the process.
That 2013-14 average of 32 points per game helped Durant win an MVP award in OKC. Durant became the first Sonics/Thunder player to ever win the award. Durant gave his famous MVP speech with his whole team there and said the famous line “You the real MVP” to his mom for the hard work she did in raising him.
From 2009-14, Durant was an All-NBA First Team player and was able to lead the league in total points and points per game during that span. He led the league in total free throws during that time, and 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2013-14, he led the league in total field goals.
Durant is said to have the most realistic shot to finally dethrone Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most total points in NBA history. He helped the Thunder reach the Finals in 2012, which they eventually lost.
His feud with Westbrook since he left has been one of the hottest stories during the past two years. It will be interesting to see if Durant ever returns.
