Boston Celtics: 5 options for pick No. 27 in 2018 NBA Draft

The Boston Celtics have plenty of options at the 27th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft. Ordinarily it’s hard to find impactful players with a pick in that range, but this is no ordinary draft. This is a draft that is super deep and more impressive than we can recall in years. Well, other than last year.

It could be better than last year’s or quite possibly the 2003 NBA Draft class. That would be hard to top and maybe it’s a stretch, but it would be still impressive if this class even comes close to those two. Boston won’t be coming away with a top draft pick this year because the Los Angeles Lakers’ pick didn’t fall between 2-5, but that doesn’t mean they can’t find a gem at No. 27.

Boston needs to look at adding scorers, replacements for Marcus Smart if it chooses to let him walk and backup big men. There are plenty of options to do whatever you’d like to fill those needs at that point.

Smart is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason and it might be hard for Boston to match or offer him a new contract because of some of the contracts they have on the books with Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving and Al Horford. Then you have to consider your max deal extensions to your younger players like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in the future.

Aron Baynes and Greg Monroe are going to be unrestricted free agents this offseason as well. Monroe signed a one-year deal for the rest of the season, so that wasn’t anything unexpected. Baynes has been a great addition this season and it would be wise to bring him back.

He’s provided great defense and depth behind Al Horford and even stepped up in a major way when plugged into the starting lineup. Finding scorers, replacements and depth is the most important thing for Boston to look at in the draft. Here are five options for the Celtics.
