Portland Trail Blazers: 5 options for pick No. 24 in 2018 NBA Draft
By Ty Delbridge
3. Rawle Alkins
- Height: 6’5″
- Weight: 220 lbs
- Age: 20
- Position: SG
Rawle Alkins is arguably one of the best 3-and-D wing players in this draft, and that is exactly what the Blazers need. Alkins is an aggressive defender who is quick, with strong and long arms. He can also handle the ball, attack the rim, run the offense and shoot the 3-point shot.
He played two seasons at the University of Arizona. In his sophomore season, Alkins averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals in 31.4 minutes per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from the 3-point line.
In the NBA, Alkins could play point guard, shooting guard and even small forward. The Blazers could play him with both Lillard and McCollum or play him with one while the other is on the bench. He could defend the main guard or wing on the other team and help take pressure off the Blazers’ backcourt.
Alkins would be a great sixth man for the Blazers and maybe eventually become a starter. He would be a much cheaper option than Evan Turner and could possibly replace Napier. The Ringer compared him to players like Lance Stephenson and Eric Bledsoe. He is a high-energy, competitive, aggressive player on both ends of the court and could provide the Blazers with tremendous value.
