Miami Heat: 2017-18 player grades for Wayne Ellington

Highlights

Considering this was a career year, there was no shortage of highlights for the player Heat TV announcer Eric Reid calls “the man with the golden arm.”

His premier performance came during the last game of the season against the Toronto Raptors. Despite having already clinched a playoff spot, the Heat were nonetheless determined to finish as high in the standings as possible, while the Raptors fielded their entire roster despite having sealed up the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Put simply, Ellington saved his best for last, nailing six of his season-high eight 3-pointers in the fourth quarter on his way to a career-high 32 points. Overall, Ellington shot 12-of-16 from the field, including 8-of-12 from long range, and was a team-high +18 during his 35 minutes of play. Ultimately, the Heat prevailed 116-109 in overtime.

Another elite performance came just prior to Christmas, where Ellington registered 28 points, including eight triples, as the Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks 119-106. Playing 39 minutes off the bench, Ellington shot 8-of-12 from long range and was a +10 during his time on the floor.

Another game in which Ellington particularly stood out was during a nail-biting 106-105 win over there Charlotte Hornets. In just one of his two starting gigs for the season, Ellington excelled in scoring a team-high 26 points, which featured hitting 6-of-10 shots from deep.

Notably, Ellington scored 16 of his 26 points after the main break, including a perfect 3-of-3 from long range in the final period.
