Miami Heat: 2017-18 player grades for Wayne Ellington

Following an impressive career year, here’s a look back at the 2017-18 season for Miami Heat sharpshooter Wayne Ellington.

It’s not often that a player at age 30 and on his seventh team in the league enjoys a career season. However, this was the case with Wayne Ellington of the Miami Heat in 2017-18.

One of the most prolific 3-point shooters in the league, ranking seventh in the league in attempts per game, Ellington’s ability to open up for the floor for the other players sharing the court with him was simply invaluable.

In 77 games, Ellington averaged 11.2 points in 26.5 minutes per game, which most notably featured shooting at a 39.2 percent clip from long range on 7.5 attempts per game.

In overall plus-minus, Ellington ranked second on the team behind Kelly Olynyk by being a +127 while on the floor over the course of the season.

Currently out of contract as a restricted free agent, the Heat are going to have an enormous decision to make this summer regarding Ellington’s future. This is not only due to the financial ramifications, but simply because of the value he provides with his elite shooting presence. Overall this season, the Heat were 3.9 points per 100 possessions better off when the 30-year-old Ellington was on the floor.
