4. Anfernee Simons, SG — IMG Academy

Keeping in line with high-upside picks for a franchise that might feel the need to take a little bit of a risk, Anfernee Simons might be as interesting a prospect as there is in the bottom half of the first round of the draft…if he even stays that low.

Simons never went to college, and is draft eligible thanks to a loophole of sorts. He graduated from high school in 2017, spent the last year playing for IMG Academy, and turns 19 next month. ESPN originally had him pegged as the No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2019, so the talent is there…it’s just raw.

Jonathan Givony paints a picture of someone with a high ceiling but an unknown floor:

"“While physically underdeveloped and likely a ways away from contributing at the NBA level, he’s considered one of the most athletic guard prospects in the class. He has significant scoring potential due to his terrific shooting range, particularly off the dribble.”"

The 6’4″ Simons profiles as a bit of a combo guard, which could work alongside Victor Oladipo, who does a fair amount of ball-handling of his own. If he’s still there at No. 23, the Pacers would need to take a long, hard look.
