Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 options for pick No. 20 in 2018 NBA Draft
The Minnesota Timberwolves hold the 20th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but who should they target? Here are their five best options.
On May 15, the NBA held the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery. For once in 14 years, fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t need to tune in as closely as they once had. It was a weird feeling knowing that the Wolves weren’t going to be a part of the draft lottery.
Let me first start off by saying that this draft class is one of the most impressive draft classes we’ve seen. In 10 years we could be looking back at this class and seeing them dominate the All-Star game.
There’s a lot of ways the Wolves can go about this draft. The immediate need is to find a wing who can either shoot 3s or play good defense or, preferably, does both. The last desire for Minnesota would be to find another big man in the draft.
Shabazz Muhammad was a disappointment this season and because of that, he rarely found time. That inevitably led him to be bought out late in the season. Jamal Crawford was not a pretty sight this season either, but he was the best scorer off the bench. However, he declined his player option and it would seem very unlikely for him to come back.
Derrick Rose was also a part of the backup players and was surprisingly a lot better than many had anticipated. Minnesota is interested in bringing him back, but we don’t know if that will happen for sure. As of right now, the Timberwolves are left without two guards and without a backup small forward.
This means that behind Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler, Minnesota doesn’t have any depth. This was common during the regular season and was a huge reason why those two logged a gargantuan amount of minutes compared to the rest of the league.
It appears that the Wolves have been in search of wing players so far.
They’ve also brought in Theo Pinson from the University of North Carolina to work out. The biggest need is on the wing, and there are plenty of options who should be available at No. 20 in the 2018 NBA Draft. Here’s a look at their five best options.
